"Charity will not solve the world's problems, we need international solidarity," said Joel Novak, president of the Social Justice Club, at halftime of the charity basketball game put on by the men of Alpha Psi Lambda and Kappa Alpha Psi to raise funds for the relief efforts in Haiti.

The two fraternities played two-20 minute halves in the PUC gym Friday March 7 and admission was $5 with all proceeds going to support Haiti.

"It's for a good cause, I'm glad we got all these people to come out," said Eric Ortiz, member of Alpha Psi Lambda.

Kappa Alpha Psi was up by one point at halftime, 16-15, and was able to keep up the effort and win 37-35 after a banked-in shot from beyond half court with two seconds left by a member of Alpha Psi Lambda.

"We just collaborated with them [Kappa Alpha Psi] to do the event. It was a good game," said Mike Hernandez, president of Alpha Psi Lambda and political science major.

Morris Sims of Kappa Alpha Psi said that he was inspired by all of the other fundraisers he was seeing and he chose to work with Hernandez and Alpha Psi Lambda because of how active they are on the PUC campus.

"We had a big turn out and we're seeing a lot of support from the school and other organizations. Maybe we can grow on this and maybe do it annually," said Sims.

Paul Pratt is an administrative staff member as well as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi who played in the game.

"We're playing to support Haiti, but they were in poor condition before this earthquake so we just ask that people continue to support Haiti and other places in need," said Pratt.
