The PUC men's basketball team lost to Judson University 85-71 Feb. 6, at the fitness center.
Judson came out of the gates firing on all cylinders and started the game on a 15-3 run.
"Judson is a very physical team, they attacked the ball on both ends of the floor and got a good margin early in the game," Coach Dan Voudrie said.
Forward Ben Rayhorn of the Eagles, led all scorers in the first half with 18 points and ended up finishing the game with 22 points.
At the break, Judson led PUC in rebounds 15-14. Judson also shot 5-11 from beyond the three-point line, compared to the Peregrine's 2-5 from beyond the arch.
In the first half, Judson shot 18-33 from the field, and PUC was 15-29.
Guard Aaron Evans led all scorers with 29 points. Forward Mark Sutter led the Peregrine rebounder's with seven.
"We came out slow, didn't contest shots and took too many contested shots," Evans said.
Judson led 44-36 at the half and came out firing again in the second half, going on a 13-4 run to start. The Peregrine's came out cold, not scoring for the first 4 min of the second half.
The Peregrine's (6-16, 3-6 CCAC) shot 47.5 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the three-point line. Judson (11-12, 7-2 CCAC) shot 54.2 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from beyond the three-point line.
"Today was a good lesson," forward Michael Patton said, "we have to play hard for 40 minutes and we have to get more uncontested shots."
Along with being the top scorer, Evans had seven assists and four steals on the night.
His big game did not matter because of the loss, according to Evans.
"Evans played very good tonight," Coach Voudrie said.
Guard Jim Kuban of the eagles also contributed ten assists.
PUC's bench chipped in with 15 points and Kedric Williams led the bench with eight points.
PUC had 35 total rebounds and Judson had 31 rebounds.
"Rebounding is one of our team's strengths. You rebound with your eyes and your heart, and we spend a portion of every practice rebounding," Coach Voudrie said.
