I did not see any of the school's athletes perform at the PUC's Got Talent competition on Nov. 20. They probably should have been.

Had they, Peregrine fans might have seen more results in Alumni Hall, because they are not apparent on the basketball court.

Both the men's and women's team have talented squads. Both teams have played hard so far.

The Ladies had immediate success with two wins to start off the season. Since then, they have failed to make the win column. Coach Tom Megyesi has told me on several occasions the schedule this year is pretty tough, as PUC will be playing nationally-ranked competition. The team is playing harder foes to identify their weaknesses before conference play starts up.

As a team with the capability of doing some damage in division II of the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference, expect the Ladies to start dropping the W's soon.

As for the men's team, their losing record appears more a matter of youth and inexperience thus far. The first win of the season has been elusive for this young men's squad. They also played nationally-ranked competition, almost pulling off a victory against one of these.

Yet their record still stands with a big goose egg in the win column. The most they have scored in a game is 95 points, so the defense giving up 96 points per game isn't going to cut it.

Both Voudrie and Megyesi have talented squads this year. Both have their teams playing hard.

Neither is seeing the immediate results that would excite Peregrine fandom.

Neither is winning.

Results are needed to get the student body excited. The season is still young and both teams have only played a handful of games. Yet, attendance at the games is not nearing half capacity, let alone full, in the Fitness Center gym.

Having talented squads is important, but seeing the results of the talent in play is more important.

As the non-conference schedule continues, both coaches are still learning about their teams. They are still taking stock of what these talented players are strong at and what weaknesses could be exploited by other teams. When conference play starts up, hopefully the PUC basketball teams are firing on all cylinders and producing the W's.

So far, the season has the beginnings of being a long non-conference schedule which produces more losses than wins.

Fans should expect results immediately. These teams, though, just might not be able to produce for them.

Either way, maybe next year the men's and women's team should take their chances on PUC's Got Talent, if only for the fans.
