Starting guard Stephanie Beck provides the intangibles to the Lady Peregrine squad.
Beck is a sophomore majoring in hospitality and tourism management, in her second season with the team. Her talent was acknowledged by her teammates.
"The girls were all welcoming. It was the main attraction to this team," Beck said. "I love it, and I wouldn't trade it for anything."
Beck has played basketball for 12 years, since she was seven years old. She impressed Coach Tom Megyesi with her abilities and talent.
"She has excellent knowledge of the game," Megyesi said. "[She] plays with a lot of intensity and keeps focus."
Megyesi spouted confidence in Beck this year. Beck herself is aware of her abilities and modestly repeated what Megyesi always tells her.
"Coach is always reminding me I'm a shooter and all he wants me to do is shoot and score," Beck said.
Megyesi called her "an outstanding guard" and trusts her skills. He feels she has a great 3-point shooting range.
Beck does all she can for her team. According to Megyesi, she is very vocal and encouraging.
"You have your leaders and captains on this team, but I try to do my role the best I can," Beck said.
According to Coach Megyesi, her large stamina fuels the team's endurance.
"I rotate players in and out to let everyone have a chance at playing, but I'll keep Stephanie out there a little longer, or when she tires out, I will sub her. Right now, she is averaging 23 minutes a game," Megyesi said.
Both Beck and Megyesi have confidence in this season's turnout. Beck has one main goal this year: winning conference.
Being an excellent player and a great teammate make Stephanie Beck a true Lady Peregrine.
