At first glance, there is not much to do in Hammond. But for those over 21 with a little cash to spare, there's always the Horseshoe Casino. Even for those who don't care for gambling, the Horseshoe offers a wide variety of entertainment. Here are some of the events the casino offers for the remainder of 2009:

Sundays - Sunday Night Jazz Series:

Fans of jazz in Northwest Indiana need not travel into Chicago to experience the music. Every Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m., the Horseshoe features jazz musicians from in and around Chicago. What better way to start a week of classes than with a little jazz?

Wednesdays - Dueling Pianos Live:

This show is just as it sounds -- two piano players compete in a battle of skill before an audience. The show, which features music from many famous artists, also includes singing and gets the audience involved. Dueling Pianos performs every Wednesday starting in Dec.

Thursdays - Hookah Night

Hookah bars have gained a lot of popularity among college students in recent years. Starting in December, the Horseshoe will feature a hookah lounge every Thursday from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. The lounge will also feature music and belly dancers to give the night a true Middle Eastern flavor.

December 5 - Bob Saget

His days on "Full House" and "America's Funniest Home Videos" long behind him, funnyman Bob Saget has returned to his roots as a raunchy stand-up comic. His material is very dirty and not for anyone easily offended. But for anyone willing to check good taste at the door, Saget will surely make for a very funny evening.

December 30 - John Legend

The Grammy-winning R&B artist will bring his music to the Horseshoe Casino. For fans of Legend, tickets to this event would make a great Christmas present, and would be a wonderful way to cap off 2009.
