Boondock Saints 2 review
Cody Cummins
Issue date: 11/23/09 Section: Entertainment
The sequel to the popular movie "The Boondock Saints" hit the screens on Nov. 13. The sequel was titled, "The Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day." The film aims itself at an audience looking for a fun movie and succeeds. It lacks in some story elements and things jump around, but other than that, it is fun and exciting. The movie is rated R, so anyone under 17 should stay at home.
"The Boondock Saints 2" takes place eight years after the events of the first movie. The audience finds the main characters, "The Saints" Conner and Murphy MacManus, back in Ireland with their father working as sheep farmers. Things take a turn when a Catholic priest is murdered on an altar in his church. Once The Saints hear of this murder, they decide it is time to come out of retirement and put an end to the murderers. From this point on, there is almost never a dull moment. Things are very fast-paced.
The movie jumps around a lot, in a very "Pulp Fiction" kind of way. The problem with this is it was not done as well as in "Pulp Fiction." Because of this, confusion occurs at some points. Fortunately, this does not detract from the movie's "fun" element. Surrealism is unexpectedly added to the story. While the movie is supposed to be action-oriented and a bit off-the-wall, some scenes will make even the most frequent action movie fan go, "What?!" Again, this does not detract from the movie; it is an interesting side note.
All in all, this is a very enjoyable movie. Even if some scenes are over-done, or it jumps around too much, it is still worth the money to go see. If you're an action movie fan, you won't be disappointed by this movie; it hits the mark exactly. I give it the Pere-grin.
