Gillotti said she was aware the raises were addressed in the 2001 Strategic Plan.
"I would have liked to see them address them sooner," Gillotti said.
Gillotti, who is a member of the LASS council, said she had been continuously updated by the LASS dean about the progress of the salary increase plan.
Gerard expects the raises to be implemented by July 1.
The average raise will be about $3,500, Faculty Salary Subcommittee Kathy Nix said.
Overall, the number of raises plus benefits cost nearly $500,000.
The funding for these adjustments come from the university budget increase obtained this year, Nix said.
The data used in the study were salary figures obtained in 2006 and 2007. Gerard said the study was updated using recent 2007 data. The update determined the salary gap by median instead of an average, she added. She believes this will result in more accurate figures, as the median is not affected by extremes.
Some faculty members are concerned about using the median to help determine which faculty members recieve raises, Gillotti said.
Everit Ting, an advisor in the school of biology, said the median salary may not be fair if the amount of professors in that particular school is small.
"The median salary of a small group of faculty could vary significantly from one year to another due to membership changes in the group," Ting said in an e-mail.
Ting also said the adjustments may not be fair to faculty members who have worked for years at PUC.
"This method tends to give a newly promoted faculty a hige raise; whereas, those who have served in the rank for several years or top performers either get nothing or a very small salary adjstment because their salary were more likely to be higher than the median salary of that pool," Ting said
Ting suggests that several similar school should be combined if the salary pool is too small.
"I think the intention was very good," she said.

I love the look on Neeti's face, she looks so angry!
Personally, I think they should only get a raise if I get A's, let's you know they're doing their job. (Continued…)
