Graduating PUC last semester, Sylvia Joyner went on to publish her first book which will be released Dec. 17.

Relationships take work, and people will be people whether they are in a ministry or not.
That is what Sylvia Joyner hopes readers will take from her first book, "Minister's Wife: A Help or Hindrance," set to release Dec. 17.
Joyner graduated from PUC last semester with a B.A. in English Literature.
"The book is written as encouragement to uplift the trials and triumphs so often experienced by men and women in the ministry of serving others," said Joyner. "Especially to married couples serving in the ministry who experience opposition in their spiritual and natural relationships."
Joyner herself is a minister, and has been serving along with her husband for 14 years. The book is based on real-life experiences, and prayers are included at the end of each chapter offered as a guide to help keep the reader focused on the goal of ministry.
Beginning the book in the latter part of 1998, Joyner has always envisioned herself as a published author.
"The toughest part of writing this book, I would say, was that I had to constantly remind myself to stay focused and make sure I wrote something every day," she said.
Joyner hopes to evoke a greater sensitivity from her audience when it comes to understanding the roles defined in the life of men and women in the ministry.
Joyner has written poetry and children's books, which have not yet been published, and is currently working on her second book.
"Writing allows you the freedom to express your innermost concerns and desires and hopefully help someone experience something different in their lives," she said. "Writing takes commitment and dedication, and most of all a lot of patience."
According to the Joyner, it is not something accomplished overnight.
"When I was young I always had a desire to write as well as teach. So what a great combination to use writing as a tool to teach," she said.
