The names of the 15 semi-finalists for the third annual 'Opportunity for Indiana business plan competition' were released last week by PUC and Purdue North Central.
Among the finalists are first time entrants, Parama W. Danoesubroto and her prospective company Funclient.com and PUC alumnus Bob Greaney with his potential company Outpatient Surgical Facilities Management Services Inc.
"This is our first time competing and we are looking forward to winning," said Bob Greaney.
Danoesubroto is a software development major at the school of management and she entered with a proposed web-based application company.
"Funclient.com would help small business' manage and organize their customer relationship quickly and easily so that they can have more time in having fun in what they do," said Danoesubroto
"It will help me jump start my business and prove that my business model works," said Parama. "Once I achieve this, I will present this business to venture capitalist that will back it up," she said
Danoesubroto is confronted with competition from other finalists, including Greaney. He teamed up with his wife Diane, a Governor State University graduate who holds a bachelors degree in accounting and has background in grant writing and project management.
The primary mission of the new company is consulting and manufacturing for the Health Care, Medical Device and Life Science industries.
The Greaney's are also partners in a new technology Management Company called Greaney &Associates, LLC, a company affiliated with the Purdue Technological Center of Northwest Indian located in Merrillville, Indiana.
The semi-finalists have until Oct. 30 for business proposal consideration and the final round of the competition where winners will be announced will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the Calumet Conference.
The 'Opportunity for Indiana' is financially supported by a $3.5 million grant funded through the Lilly Endowment Inc. The Purdue initiative is arranged in three different regions in Indiana including Purdue West Lafayette, IUPFW (Fort Wayne) and the Northwest region, PUC and Purdue North Central.
"The program provides the people of Indiana with an opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship through the development and presentation of a business plan idea," said Donna George, event coordinator-Media Relations.
The program is comprised of the business plan competition which includes the six week educational workshops that began in August and end in September. These workshops focus on a number of business related material such as writing a business plan, starting a new business and commercializing an idea.
Another segment of the program is called "Interns for Indiana" which are opportunities to launch internship with high-tech start-up companies.
The first place winner of the competition receives $25,000, the second place winner $15,000 and the third place winner is awarded $10,000.
The competitions are opened to anyone interested in starting a business in Indiana and everyone is encouraged to apply.
